100+ Women Recap 2025-2026 Season
100+ Women Who Care Celebrates a great 2026 season ending with 198 members and donations of. $70,000 bringing the grand total of donations to $124,000.
The first 2026 meeting of 100+ Women Who Care Sanibel & Captiva held on February 10th was an inspiring success, bringing together 146 members for the organization’s signature “Power Hour.” The room was filled with connection, purpose, and a shared commitment to strengthening the Sanibel and Captiva community through collective giving.
After an hour of inspiring presentations and thoughtful consideration, members voted to direct the group’s pooled donation to Trailways Camps Inc. as the first grant recipient of the season. Their mission resonated strongly with members, and the funding supported a camp that was held on the Islands in September 2026. The organization is located on Sanibel and operates an office on island as well.
Two additional organizations were recognized for their compelling presentations. Leigh Clevenger for Roots for Resilience, a citizen-led project, and Zonta Sanibel-Captiva each delivered five-minute pitches highlighting the important work they are doing in the community. Their presentations showcased the passion and dedication that define Sanibel and Captiva’s nonprofit landscape.
The Sanibel Captiva Chapter of 100+ Women Who Care celebrated a milestone at its March 10 meeting, announcing membership had grown to more than 175 women.
More than 80 members gathered in person and on Zoom to hear presentations from three local nonprofits: Deborah Larson for the Sanibel Music Festival, Clair Beckmann for the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium, and Corrie Presland-Byrne for CROW (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife).
Following the vote, CROW was selected to receive the primary donation. Wave Makers Jane Majeski and Pam Browning announced the award will total more than $20,000.
Members also heard an update from the Children’s Education Center of the Islands (CECI) on the impact of last year’s $12,600 donation, along with a $5,000 grant from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation; the funding supported the installation of a No-See-Um insect misting system, helping create a safer and more comfortable outdoor environment for the children and staff.
Members gathered for the last of the year’s meetings on April 7. Leadership recognized the achievement of reaching 198 members. The season closed with the group raising more than $70,000 in 2026 to support non-profit organizations across our beautiful islands.
Three outstanding nonprofits shared their missions with the group: Mary Bondurant representing the Pink Project, Angi Semler Welch with the Sanibel Community House, and Allie Pecenka with Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF).
Following the vote, SCCF was selected to receive the primary grant of $20,000+ in support of its Gopher Tortoise project.
Dorothy Plumb from the Sanibel School Fund reported on the use of the funds awarded by 100+ Women Who Care last April. In addition, recipients of funds from February and March received their checks at the meeting.
A special thank you to our generous season sponsor, Florida Trust Wealth Management, and to the Charitable Foundation of the Islands for their continued support.
Thanks to the generosity of anonymous members, each of the additional presenting nonprofits also received small grants to support their important work.
